    2020 Appeal for Voluntary Contributions

Camden School for Girls was founded in 1871 by Frances Mary Buss, one of the great pioneers of women’s education and the first person ever to use the title ‘headmistress’. When she founded her first school, North London Collegiate, her original vision was that girls should be “trained to match their brothers”.  In founding Camden School for Girls with just 40 pupils she ensured that the right to education was also extended to those from less privileged backgrounds.

Today the results achieved by our students are the best in the borough outside of the private sector. In 2019 the percentage of students attaining grade 5+ in both English and mathematics at GCSE was 75%.  Our Progress 8 score (which measures the progress students make from their starting points) is 0.89 and puts us in the top 2% of comprehensive schools.  At A-level 15% of all grades were A*.  78% of all grades were at A* - B.  16 of our students gained places at Cambridge or Oxford and 10 have places at medical school.

Since the school was founded it has always relied on donations from others.  In 2020 the need for donations is no less significant. As a voluntary aided school we are responsible for providing 10% of the costs of almost all works to improve the school buildings.

The school recently completed a £1.7 million building works project which included a brand new entrance, a larger dining area and improvements to the Sixth Form building, enhancements that have benefited our current students as well as generations to come. We have also made numerous improvements to the school grounds with the school being surrounded by a green living wall and we have a new Astroturf multi use games area as well.

Any contributions that parents are able to make towards the school’s foundation, particularly in light of the current school funding cuts, are very much appreciated and will help the school enormously. The value of these contributions can be increased by 25% when you add Gift Aid. All donations are treated in strict confidence.

We hope you will consider making a contribution to the school’s foundation today. Please visit the CAF donate page at https://cafdonate.cafonline.org/10406#/DonationDetails  in order to do so.

    Thank you.
